Fuck You: Cee Lo Green

In Singles Week: Life on Shuffle on November 2, 2010 at 1:54 pm

Fuck is without a doubt the most powerful word in the English language. Cee Lo Green (how can you not respect a man with that name?) not only pulls it off, he brings it back–he makes you want to say it: over and over. While this initially comes off as a sort of silly riff, the more you listen to it, the more you realize the genius here. What Green has created is more than a jingle, more than a catchy product. It’s theater: drama realized, what everyone in the world wants to say, and in a way that makes you feel normal–makes you root for the little guy, and yourself. The more he says it, the more you feel the power of it: there’s no other way to say it. This is more like listening to a musical—an entire lifetime of awkwardness and spite. An education in the entirely unfair game of romance. This song is easy to sing along to because it’s true–it feels good. If you can’t say Fuck You and mean it, you haven’t had many lessons in love.
